Introducing the Association Boats & their Skippers
The Kingfisher
Skipper: Alec Hicks
The Kingfisher of St. Mary's is a 10 year old GRP K50, built in Falmouth by Kingfisher boats. Alec Hicks has owned it since its launch in 1995.
Alec has been a member of St. Mary's Boatmen's Association for 15 years. In the five years before operating the Kingfisher Alec ran the 'Southern Queen' , a wooden passenger launch.
Prior to becoming a member of the Association Alec worked in the Hicks family boating business, whos boats included the Sea King and Black Swan.
Alec has many family connections to the Boatmen's Association: "My grandfather and father were both original members when the Association was first formed. At present I have two brothers who are both members in the Association, Fraser on the Sea King and Stephen on the Seahorse."
For his favorite boating trip Alec says: "I enjoy all of the trips in and around the Islands. Fishing trips are my speciality."
